International AIDS Candlelight Memorial - "In Solidarity"
International AIDS Candlelight Memorial started in 1983 year in San Francisco and New York. Candlelight Memorial take place every third Sunday in May for already 20 years, with purpose to increase awareness and sensitivity of society to HIV problems, and decrease conected with HIV stigma and discrimination.
Although the Bulgaria is still a country with comparativly low spreading of HIV, the country is located between high levels of HIV infection in Eastern Europe and moderate spreading of infection in Western Europe. According to last data, HIV prevalence in Bulgaria is growing. Till March 18 the number of HIV positive people is 1 669, and from the beginnig of 2013 new cases of infection are 39, while for 2012 year all new HIV diagnosed people are 157.
International AIDS Candlelight Memorial giving a chance to everyone to get informed, to check its own HIV status, to give support to people he loves, and not forget that HIV is a part of our lives.
As a tradition, in Burgas town have place AntiAIDS campanies, which presents an opportunity for everyone who wants to test free of charge and anonimously for HIV. On key locations in the city will be placed 3 mobile cabinets, where profesionals will do consulting and testing for HIV. The activites are related with a lot of publicity engaging actions.
Every person can give its own contribution to AIDS Candlelight Memorial, all needed is to be active.
